Headteacher research breakfasts:

Keele University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Trevor McMillan, recently welcomed twenty-five local primary headteachers for the first in a series of four breakfast meetings; which were led by Diane Swift (SCITT) and Sandra Mitchell (CPRT Schools Alliance headteacher).

The first research breakfast focused on the importance of ‘elaborative language’ utilising CPRT’s research survey Children’s Cognitive Development and Learning by Usha Goswami. Diane and Sandra noted that ‘the breakfast series creates the time and space for colleagues to explore research reports and briefings emanating from the Cambridge Primary Review Trust.’

There will be a further three research breakfasts in the 2015/16 academic year, each of which focusing on a different topic: curriculum breadth and balance, children’s voice and dialogic teaching.

The overall aim of these research breakfasts is to create a collaborative community that creates capacity through mutual support for informed engagement with primary education; as well empowering participants to innovate within their own primary setting back by the rigour of CPRT research.
