World Science Centre Day

Thursday 10 November

International Centre for Life, Newcastle

Event Details

The first ever International Science Centre and Science Museum Day – organised by ASTC (the international Association of Science and Technology Centres) with UNESCO, will take place on Thursday 10th November.

Events to mark this world first will take place in science centres all over the world from China to the USA – and Newcastle upon Tyne!.

Linda Conlon MBE, Chief Executive of the International Centre for Life in Newcastle became chair of ASTC in October 2015 – the first European woman to be appointed in this role.  ASTC, formed in 1973, has its headquarters in Washington, D.C. It champions the role of international science engagement and gives a collective voice to over 650 science centres across the world including the Exploratorium in San Francisco, Harvard Museum of Natural History and Hong Kong Science Centre.

This first ever World Science Centre Day in November, which will be an annual event, will highlight the important role Science Centres play in their communities in inspiring and nurturing an interest in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
