Museum-school forum and networking event

Tuesday 7 March

King's College London, Strand Campus (WC2R 2LS)

Event Details

This event builds on the publication of a report on My primary school is at the museum, a project led by King’s College London which tested the hypothesis that there may be beneficial learning, social and cultural outcomes for children and their families if a significant portion of their nursery, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 education takes place in a museum or gallery – not to mention benefits for the cultural organisations themselves.

The forum is aimed at museum and gallery learning and education staff, school teachers and education specialists. Attendees so far include primary schools, museums and gallaries from across the UK, the NUT, and educational charities.

It will feature:

David Anderson, Director General of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales and former President of the Museums Association and David Fleming, Director of National Museums Liverpool in conversation about museums as formal learning resources.

Workshops on a variety of key issues, including:

– Practical next steps for developing closer museum-school relationships in your region
– The feasibility of permanent museum-school co-location
– Networking opportunities with other learning and education professionals

Provisional timetable (full details will be confirmed in February):

12:00-13:00: Registration and lunch
13:00-18:00: Panel discussions and workshops
18:00-19:00: Networking and drinks
