Drama offers structures that can be used by teachers, to enable children to generate ideas, discuss, debate, rehearse, present and sometimes perform their thinking and understanding. This can be as a context or pretext for writing.
In this course, you will:
- Increase your drama knowledge and gain practical understanding of a broad range of drama techniques that can give contexts for developing talk and writing
- Actively participate in non-threatening,‘ whole class ‘drama’ and evaluate the experience and the learning opportunities
- Consider the specific drama for writing statements and guidance that exist in the new primary national curriculum for English
- Receive a handbook of drama strategies and conventions and three Drama units with talk and writing opportunities highlighted
Course Leader: Patrice Baldwin
Patrice Baldwin is President of the International Drama Theatre and Education Association (IDEA), Chair of National Drama and a prolific author. Most recently she has co-written, ‘Inspiring Writing Through Drama’ (with Rob John). She was a Primary Headteacher, LA Arts Adviser and School Improvement Partner, as well as an Ofsted inspector and is an arts education consultant.
